xubOdisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) launched Xavier Digital University, India’s first digital University here on Thursday.The Xavier Digital University provides many modern tools and features to the teachers, students and management enabling efficient research and teaching methodologies.It was inaugurated in the presence of two Odisha Ministers – Pradeep Maharathy and Arun Kumar Sahoo.Maharathy emphasised on the need to be in sync with the developments in the education sector and extended his full support towards the growth and progress of Xavier University.Sahoo interacted with the university students and spent time to understand the needs of the students while also reminding them of their responsibilities to the society.Mayank Jha, Regional Manager, Career Education, IBM gave a brief account of the technical expertise that has gone into establishing this unique project and how IBM contributed towards establishing India’s First Digital University.Jha also spoke about the possibility of IBM co-developing new programmes with Xavier University for the next academic year.Kiran Mohan Das, Senior Consultant, Juniper Networks India Pvt.Ltd.elaborated on the high speed optical networking that has gone into building the backbone of the project.He also expressed his interest to have the staff of Juniper teach specialized courses at Xavier University.M Lakshmi Narayan Rao, Chief Technical Officer, HP India Sales Pvt.Ltd.gave a presentation on the partnership between HP and Xavier University Computer Centre to develop Xavier Cloud, a unique and comprehensive solution aimed at making all information available online at all times.Paul Fernandes, Vice Chancellor & Director, XIMB, Xavier University concluded the event with a vote of thanks commending the efforts of the team involved in the project.He pointed out that with the changing times, the needs of the future managers have changed and therefore the methodologies to train them must adapt accordingly.The Xavier One Portal, one of the key highlights of the event, is a one-stop platform for all the IT needs an institute can have.It provides a single entry for tasks spread across various departments including administration.The introduction of ‘Xavier Cloud’, backed by Juniper, is to facilitate the seamless flow of information for research and educational needs of teachers and students respectively.The Digital University includes several key technologies such as ‘Xavier Videobook’ which is an award winning platform that makes use of several patented technologies.The platform sources relevant and contextual video in line with the text to make learning more immersive and interactive.The library also has ‘Xavier My Room’ which creates a platform to host virtual classrooms and peer-interaction, using high quality video and audio conferencing.Xavier SIMS is another unique tool introduced through the digital platform that allows improved management of the overall system by the administration.The digital library also boasts of a collection of more than 39,000 titles available online to the students and faculty at all times.A convenient yet comprehensive search feature allows the user to make the most of this vast repository of knowledge.Another feature which is extremely crucial for students and teachers is the ‘Xavier Skillport’ which provides high quality content for reference.With these developments on board, Xavier University Bhubaneswar strives to become the first successful digital university in India.As its motto states; Educating, Empowering, Enlightening and Energizing, Xavier University promises to produce the cream of the crop who can take on the various challenges of the world.
