jajpurRajashree DashJajpur, Jan 16: With the arrest of seven armed men, police claimed to have foiled a dacoity attempt at a jewellery shop in Jajpur Road city in this Odisha district today.They also recovered two country made pistols, 13 live cartridges, a bhujali, lethal weapons, ten mobiles, a SUV vehicle, eight masks and cash of Rs 10,540 from their possession.The arrested have been identified as Saroj Nayak(34), Sahadev Nayak(24), Sadananda Nayak(23), Raju Nayak(25), Biren Dehury(24), Gobinda Pradhan(25) and Tapan Kumar Pradhan.All the arrested were forwarded to the local court and later they were remanded to judicial custody after their bail pleas were rejected, police said.Jajpur Superintendent of Police Anup Kumar Sahu said that after received a tip-off that a gang were planning a dacoity at a jewellery shop at Jajpur Road, local police laid a trap and nabbed four of them from a road side Dhaba at Janha near the town while they were assembling and preparing to commit dacoity at a jewellery shop on Tuesday night.Later, police managed to arrest two more gang members from Neulpur in Jajpur district on Wednesday.On the basis of their revelation, police nabbed another gang member from Keonjhar district on Thursday.“It is an inter district gang of dacoits having eight members in which Saroj was working as the kingpin.We have arrested seven members of the gang so far.Rest one will be arrested soon,” said Sahu.During interrogation, the arrested revealed that they had hatched a plot to commit dacoity at a jewellery shop at Jajpur Road, he said.They have admitted to their involvement in at least 28 dacoity cases in Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Jajpur districts,” he addedThe SP said they recovered two county made pistols, live cartridges, sharp weapons, a SUV vehicles, 10 cell phones and cash worth Rs 10,540 from their possession.
