naveen-patnaikOdisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Apr 8: As expected, the ruling Biju Janata Dal has swept the elections in eight urban local bodies in Odisha.The elections were held on Tuesday and results were announced after the votes were counted today.According to official sources, the BJD won the majority of seats in the three municipalities in Paradip, Belpahar and Sunabeda, and the five Notified Area Councils in Daspalla, Dharmagarh, Balimela, Tushara, and Rairakhol where elections were held.Opposition Congress and BJP failed to perform well in all the eight civic bodies.Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik had led the campaign for the party nominees in Paradip.The State government had launched the Aahar cheap meal scheme in five cities of the State on April 1 to woo the urban poor.
