Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to issue instructions to commence construction of the National Institute of New Energy and Innovation in Odisha.

Patnaik has also urged Modi to direct the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy to reopen its Regional Office in Bhubaneswar.

Commending the Centre for its initiative to establish the National Institute of New Energy and Innovation in the State for promoting cutting edge R&D activities in the field of renewable energy, Patnaik pointed out that construction of the institute near IIT, Bhubaneswar has not yet been taken up despite grant of advance possession of the required land.

Stating that the State government had committed to provide the necessary infrastructure support for the prestigious project, Patnaik informed that his government has already allocated 73.68 acres of land near IIT, Bhubaneswar for the institute.

Further, 1 acre of land has been identified in Bhubaneswar for the city office of the proposed institute, Patnaik said in his letter.

As regards the closure of the Ministry’s regional office, the Chief Minister said that the Ministry had issued an order dated November 10, 2017 to close down its regional office at Bhubaneswar.

Closure of the regional office may hamper the progress of establishment of the National Institute of New Energy and Innovation at Bhubaneswar, Patnaik added.
