Jajpur: Two human skeletons were recovered from the bank of Baitarani river near Dhanatri village under Panikoili police station limits in the district in Odisha on Saturday.

Police said that some residents of Dhanatri spotted the skeletal remains two unidentified persons on the river bank and informed the local police about it on Saturday.

On being informed, Panikoili police along with local fire brigade personnel reached the spot and recovered the skeletons from the river bank.

The skeletons have been sent to the Jajpur district headquarters hospital for postmortem.

The circumstances under which the skeletons were washed away in the flood water will be ascertained after gender determination and forensic tests, police said.

“The unidentified skeletons were found floating near the river bank. They have been sent to the district headquarters hospital for post-mortem. We will certainly ascertain as how the skeletons came to the river bank,” said a police officer.

In a flood related incident, a youth was rescued by the fire brigade personnel after being swept away in floodwater while he was returning home.

According to reports, the 18-year-old man of Keshabpur under Rasulpur block in the district was swept away in the floodwater of Brahmani river while returning home on Friday night.

After he shouted, some locals spotted him sweeping away in the flood water and immediately informed the Kuakhia fire personnel. On being informed, firefighters from Kuakhia fire station reached the spot in a boat and rescued the youth from Khandas area after two hour long search operation last night. The youth had managed to cling to a bush to save his life, sources said.
