Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Thursday added 4,340 new COVID-19 positive cases, the highest number of cases in a single day, taking the total to 1,96,888 cases so far.

Of the new 4,340 cases, 2,517 were detected in quarantine and 1,823 were local contacts, according to the State Health Department.

The highest number of 653 cases was reported from Khordha district and the second highest number of 567 cases was reported from neighbouring Cuttack district.

The State also reported 16 deaths due to COVID-19 during the past 24 hours, the highest in a single day so far, officials said.

The State had on Wednesday reported 4,237 infections – 2485 in quarantine and 1752 local contacts, and 15 deaths due to COVID-19.

A total of 1,57,265 persons have recovered from COVID-19 till date, while 38,818 persons are undergoing treatment in different COVID-19 hospitals and COVID care centres, the State government said.

Of the nearly two lakh infections reported so far, as many as 752 have died due to COVID-19 and 53 have died due to other ailments.

The State has conducted 29,56,301 tests to detect coronavirus infections till date.
