Odisha Channel Bureau Sambalpur, Nov 3: A total of 654 numbers of students were conferred with their Degrees in B.Tech, M.Tech.and MCA on the occasion of the fifth convocation of the Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) at Burla on Monday.Addressing the gathering, Odisha Governor and Chancellor of VSSUT S.C.Jamir congratulated all the graduating students on this occasion and also the awardees and medal winners for their excellent academic achievement.Stating that India views engineering and technology as a route to become a prosperous and developed nation removing poverty, subsistence agriculture and inadequate health care, the Governor said that it made technology as a way of creating prosperity for thousands of workers and establishing itself at the front rank of global innovation.“However, there are technological challenges we need to overcome.We have to work together to build a more vibrant and sustainable India with a comprehensive plan and a roadmap for the future,” Jamir observed.“Our scientists, engineers and technologists have an obligation to explore the power of technology and even create new technology to strike at some of our most vexing economic, educational, health and other social problems.To do so, we must prepare for the communications revolution that is upon us, opening the doors of learning and opportunity for everyone,” the Governor said.Chief guest R.Natarajan, former Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education said that the XXI century is characterized by significant impact of technology on education, industry, commerce, lifestyle, entertainment and society; emergence of knowledge industry and economy; demand for mass education; widening of disparities between countries and regions, characterized as technology divide, digital divide, education divide, prosperity divide, etc; increased uncertainty and lowered predictability resulting from accelerating change; the potential of ET and ICT for enhancing the effectiveness of learning; changing employer-employee loyalty relationships; globalization and internationalization; market economy; and emphasis on continuous professional development.As we navigate through the XXI century, we are confronted with a world characterized as a “VUCA” environment.Coined in the late 1990’s, the military-derived acronym stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity.In this world, achieving success in any human endeavor requires the positive flip side of VUCA: Vision, Understanding, Clarity and Understanding.Central to this world is the challenge of change – not only in magnitude, but also in velocity and acceleration, he added.As we navigate through the XXI century, we are confronted with a world characterized as a “VUCA” environment.Coined in the late 1990’s, the military-derived acronym stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity.In this world, achieving Success in any human endeavor requires the positive flip side of VUCA: Vision, Understanding, Clarity and Understanding.Central to this world is the challenge of Change – not only in magnitude, but also in velocity and acceleration.Vice-Chancellor of the university B.K.Nanda said that the university has achieved remarkable progress in this current academic session by increasing intake strength which is almost double than the previous strength.This year 1373 students have taken admission in various B.Tech., M.Tech., M.Sc., MCA and Ph.D.courses.Currently, the total number of students of the University is 3466 in eleven Undergraduate and twenty five Postgraduate & Ph.D.programmes, he added.
