Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed the authorities concerned to provide electricity to all households in the State by October 2.
The direction was issued at a meeting that Patnaik presided over to review the progress of rural electrification work in the State on Tuesday.
It was revealed from the review that power connection had been given to as many as 47,655 villages out of total 47,655 villages of the State, and 22 villages were yet to have electricity connections.
Those 22 villages will be provided electricity by the end of this month, Patnaik directed.
Patnaik further asked the officials to lay more focus on the 22,000 partially electrified villages across the State. Most of these villages were located in the hilly and tribal-dominated districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Balangir, Kandhamal and Gajapati.
The concerned agencies will be asked to provide electricity connections to these villages over a period of 10 months by focusing on completion of electrification work in three villages each every month.
The Chief Minister ordered that the Chief Secretary, District Collectors and the agencies that have been engaged in the electrification work will review the progress every month to ensure that all households in the State get power connection by October 2 next.
