Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: National Institute of Technology Rourkela were crowned National Champions in Tata Mutual Fund’s ‘Simply Finance Quiz’ – an inter-collegiate nationwide quiz competition on Finance.The quiz was organized across 8 cities with the aim of creating awareness among the youth on finance and investing.The success of the quiz was vindicated by the fact that it was not just finance students who got attracted to the quiz.There were engineering students, MBA (non-finance) students, hotel management students and even medical students who participated with full fervor.This aligned well with our cause of getting non-finance students to engage with finance.The teams that made it to the finals were Government College of Technology, Ethiraj College for Women, N I T Rourkela, BMS Institute of Technology, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering & Management Nagpur, Institute of Management & Technology Ghaziabad, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Bhubaneswar, and Osmania Medical College HyderabadLast year it was the medical students who won the quiz.This year, it was the turn of engineers, Nishant Nihar and Wasim Sajjad from National Institute of Technology Rourkela who were crowned National Champions at the Grand Finale held on October 11 at the Taj President.Asked about their experience of the quiz, the winners had this to say: “We thoroughly enjoyed the quiz, it was well-organized and a fair event which made us explore the world of finance, an indispensable part of the modern world we live in.It is a great initiative to spread the financial knowledge across the youth of the country, we hope it will become more successful and widen its reach in the future.” The runners up Prashant Mishra and Sourav Ghosh from Institute of Management & Technology Ghaziabad also shared their views, “Simply Finance Quiz, an excellent initiative by Tata Mutual Fund, has been instrumental in spreading the message of saving big and investing smart, for the youth of India through the medium of a quiz.This quiz journey has been memorable one for us with excellent quiz quality, venues and organization and we look forward to similar events in the future.” The Quiz was held across eight cities starting with Coimbatore on August 25.Other regional rounds were held at Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Indore, Kolkata, and Mumbai.The semi-finals and finals were held in Mumbai.Over 700 teams (1400 students) participated in the regional rounds.A microsite – www.simplyfq.com – was launched to enable prospective participants to register for the quiz.It also displayed the itinerary, photographs and reviews of completed rounds.It also featured an online practice quiz.The Quiz offered big reward money – a total of Rs 9.5 Lakhs.The winners received prize money of Rs.3,00,000, runner-up of Rs.1,50,000 and second runner-up of Rs.1,00,000.Regional round winners received Rs.50,000, according to a press release issued from Mumbai on Thursday.
