Paradip Port Trust, Odisha’s lone major port, handled 5.45 million tonnes of cargo during the month of June, 2013 as compared to 3.63 million tonnes handled in the corresponding month of previous year which is 50.23% higher and also 4.20% higher over the target fixed for the period.
During the month, 1.97 million tonnes cargo was exported and 3.48 million tonnes cargo was imported through the Port .The total cargo handled during the first quarter of the current financial year stands at 17.00 million tonnes as compared to 11.74 million tonnes of cargo handled during the corresponding period of the previous year, which is an increase of 44.79% and is also an increase of 5.79% over the target fixed for the period.
During this period, thermal coal traffic has exhibited a growth of 57.79%.Similarly POL traffic has increased by 24.50%, iron ore traffic registered a growth of 176.96%, fertilizer raw materials exhibited growth of 45.12% and coking coal traffic grew by 27.04%.
Paradip Port has achieved second highest position in terms of cargo handled and also in terms of percentage of growth in traffic among all the major ports till the end of June, 2013.
The average turnaround time (Port A/c.) for the month improved by 10% over the corresponding period of previous year.The average turnaround time (Port A/c.) up to the month improved by 11% over the corresponding period of previous year and 7% over the target fixed for the year.The average berthday output for the month improved by 12% over the corresponding period of previous year.
The average berthday output up to the month improved by 4% over the corresponding period of previous year and 5% over the target fixed for the year.
Rail borne traffic improved by 56% during the month and same improved by 53% up to the month over the corresponding periods of the previous year.
A record quantity of 1,76, 924 tonnes of HSD was imported during the month of June, 2013 surpassing the previous record of 1,72,365 tonnes imported during March, 2012.
