tata-fundingOdisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: Tata Steel will fund the setting up of a 100 bed Super Specialty Eye Care Hospital at Samarjhola village under Hinjilicut Block of Ganjam District.Sankara Eye Hospital of Tamil Nadu will implement the project and operate the hospital.Towards this end, a grant agreement was signed here on Wednesday between Arun Misra, vice president Gopalpur Project signed the grant agreement on behalf of the steel major while S.Visvanathan, trustee & secretary, Chennai-based Sankara Eye Hospital, signed on behalf of the hospital.Atanu Sabsyasachi Nayak, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Information & Public Relations, and Pradeep Kumar Panigrahy, Minister of Science & Technology, Higher Education, Rural Development (Rural Water Supply), Government of Odisha were present on occasion and appreciated the initiative of Tata Steel.Others present on the occasion included senior officials of Tata Steel like Chanakya Chaudhary, Group Director, Corporate Communication and Regulatory Affairs, Rajeev Singhal, vice president, Raw Materials, M.C.Thomas, General Manager, OMQ and Biren Ramesh Bhuta, Chief, CSR.From Sankara Eye Hospital Wg Cdr V Shankar, Trustee & Executive Director, S.Srinivas and Narayan Satpathy.According to the agreement, Tata Steel will extend financial support as a grant up to Rs.42.3 crore for construction of the proposed 100 bed eye hospital and the required infrastructure including equipment to be built over 4.5 acres of land in the Samarjhola village which is approximately 17 km from Berhampur city.Out of the total grant a cheque of Rs.3 crore, as an initial amount, was handed over to the hospital authority on the occasion.Sankara Eye Hospital, which has an outstanding record of providing quality eye care for over two decades, will run this hospital which will have facilities like comprehensive eye care, investigations and outpatient treatment, low vision clinic, contact lens clinic, special clinic for children, day care options – same day surgeries, micro phaco cataract surgeries for spectacle free vision, glaucoma services and many more.
