Odisha Channel Bureau Cuttack, Aug 6: Justice Amitava Roy was sworn in as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court here on Wednesday.Odisha Governor S.C.Jamir administered oath of office and secrecy to Justice Roy at a function held at the High Court premises.High Court judges and a large number of lawyers attended the swearing-in ceremony.Justice Roy was previously the Chief Justice of Rajasthan High Court.He succeeded Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel who has since joined as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.Born on March 1, 1953 in Dibrugarh in Assam, Justice Roy completed LL.B.from the Dibrugarh University in 1976.He was enrolled with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh in 1976.Justice Roy belongs to a family of lawyers.His father Late Anadi Bhushan Roy was a practising Senior Advocate.His father-in-law Late Salil Kumar Dutta had been a Judge of the Calcutta High Court.After working as Judge of the Guwahati High Court, Justice had become the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court in January 2013.
