Odisha Channel Bureau Jajpur, June 28: A week after registration of a criminal case against a youth for having sex with a local girl on the false promise of marriage and three others for shooting a video during the act and threatening to post the footage on the internet when the victim refused to succumb to their blackmail, the local police have not been able to arrest the accused persons.
Though five persons, including the main accused Bubuna Rout, have been named in the FIR filed by the mother of the victim with Dharmasala police, the police have registered a case against four, but have not arrested any of them till Saturday. Though four of the five persons named in the FIR, excluding the main accused, are allegedly moving in and around the area, police are not arresting them.
“Four of five accused are moving around freely and threatening us,” alleged mother of the victim. The allegation of inaction on the part of the police stems from the fact that cops were provided with the copy of the sex video by the victim’s family as a proof, thus revealing the involvement of the accused and his accomplices. The police maintained that they are searching for the accused.
“The accused are absconding .We are on the job to arrest them,” said a senior police official. It may be noted that Bubuna of Naupal village was having one-sided love with a 20-year-old girl of his vicinity and he was insisting her to marry. The accused was coming to the girl’s house and threatening her that he would kidnap her if she refused to marry him. When the girl’s family informed about it to the father of the accused, the latter assured that he would arrange marriage between them.
In pretext of marriage, Bubuna took the girl for outing. He made physical relationship with her and during her intimacy he made video recording of all the activities without her knowledge. The trouble began when the accused got married to another girl. When the victim’s family asked Bubuna as why he rejected their daughter, the accused accompanied with his family members assaulted the former.
The accused threatened the girl’s family members to post the video footage of their daughter on the internet if we did not shell out Rs.20,000 to him and the girl’s family gave him Rs.20,000 cash .After receiving money, Bubuna further demanded Rs.1 lakh more to hand over the sex video footage. All other accused were also allegedly demanding money from the victim family. When, the victim family could not pay Rs.1 lakh to the accused, they circulated the video footage. One of the relatives of the victim managed to collect the video footage from a local cyber café.
Finally, the victim’s mother rushed to local police station on June 6.She also gave the video recording to the police. Police did nothing for the last two weeks. Then the mother of the victim brought these things to the notice of the District Superintendent of Police on June 20.The Dharmasala police had registered after being directed by the SP on June 21.
