Rajashree DashJajpur, Sep 1: A youth has been arrested for allegedly cheating a man of Rs.36 lakh on the pretext of getting his daughter admitted to a private medical institution in Bhubaneswar, police said on Monday.The arrested person has been identified as Manas Routray(35), an employee of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar.Jajpur Road police arrested Routray from the KIIT university campus during the dayEarlier, police had arrested two of his aides namely – Suman Parida, an employee of the St.Xavier College at Jajpur Road and Amrit Kumar Samantray of Tamando in Bhubaneswar in this connection.“Manas, an employee of the KIIT was on Monday arrested from his workplace in Bhubaneswar.He, along with his two aides, had cheated Sudarshan Jena of Rs.36 lakh on the pretext of getting his daughter admitted in KIIMS medical college in Bhubaneswar,” said Rajib Lochan Panda, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Jajpur Road.According to police, Sudarshan Jena of Danagadi came to Jajpur Road and met Parida for the medical admission of his daughter.Parida then called both Samantray and Routray and introduced them with Jena as Professor and employee of the KISS respectively.The trio then asked Jena to arrange Rs.50 lakh for the admission.Jena paid them Rs.36 lakh on different occasions.The accused allegedly asked Jena to come for counseling on July last week at the institute and demanded more money.But on verification, Jena found that no such counselling for his daughter was scheduled in the institute and realised that he had been cheated.He then filed a complaint with Jajpur Road police on August 8 against three accused and police managed to arrest two of them a day after filing of the FIR.
