Odisha Channel Bureau CUTTACK: A total of 135 students were conferred degrees at the third annual convocation of the students of National Law University Odisha (NLUO) in the presence of Chief Justice of India Justice T.S.Thakur and other dignitaries on Saturday evening.Delivering the convocation address as Chief Guest on the occasion, Justice Thakur congratulated the successful law students of NLUO, and urged them to emerge as agents of change and help people irrespective of their caste, creed and gender. The CJI also urged the judges to encourage young lawyers to excel in their profession and come out as successful lawyers.Among others who attended the convocation are Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Supreme Court Judge Justice Dipak Mishra, and Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Vineet Saran.Those conferred degrees include 108 are under-graduate students – 54 students of B.A.LL.B.and 54 students of B.B.A LL.B., 25 LL.M.students from 2015-16 batch and two Ph.D awardees.A total number of 16 gold medals were presented to the students who excelled in various disciplines.Out of the 16 gold medals, six have been instituted by NLUO, while the remaining 10 have been donated by various dignitaries of the legal fraternity.The two Ph.D degrees were presented to Amarendra Kumar Ajit and Nachiketa Mittal by Justice Thakur.Seven LLM degrees were presented to the successful candidates by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.Chief Justice of Orissa High Court who is also the Chancellor of NLUO presented the other degrees to the successful candidates in the present of the dignitaries.The law journal of NLUO was also released at the function by the Chief Justice of India.The Human Rights Law journal was released by the Odisha Chief Minister.The welcome address was delivered by Vice-Chancellor of NLUO Srikrishna Deva Rao who spoke in detail about the university’s growth story.
