Odisha Channel Bureau Cuttack, Mar 4: Thousands of Congress workers and leaders gheraoed the office of the Odisha Director General of Police here today in protest against slapping of false charges against activists of Youth and Students wings of the party.The police had filed a case against Youth and Student Congress activists under various sections including Section 307 of the IPC (Attempt to murder).The case related to throwing of eggs at the cavalcade of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar while he was on his way to attend the annual function of the Utkal University Student’s Union at Vani Vihar on February 19.The protest was led by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan and many senior leaders.A five-member delegation of the Congress also met the DGP Sanjeev Marik and submitted a memorandum demanding withdrawal of false charges slapped against the party activists.The leaders who participated in the protest demonstration alleged that the State police was acting as an arm of the ruling Biju Janata Dal.
