Bhubaneswar: A 91-year-old COVID-19 patient has defeated the deadly contagion in Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar.
Dhirendranath Das, a former senior official with the Press Information Bureau and All India Radio, was cured of the disease on Monday.
Das diagnosed with virus was put in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at SUM COVID hospital in the city on September 5.
Das was suffering from respiratory disorder and age-related ailments. A team of four doctors had treated the nonagenarian patient.
He is the second nonagenarian to defeat COVID-19 in Odisha. Udayanath Bisoi (95) of Ganjam district was cured of COVID-19 in July.
Single-day recoveries surpass fresh cases in Bhubaneswar
The single-day recoveries surpassed the number of new infections for the third consecutive day on Monday in Bhubaneswar with 506 recovered from the disease as against 306 new infections detected during the past 24 hours.
Bhubaneswar has reported an impressive recovery rate of almost 80% with 506 patients getting cured of the disease on Monday.
The capital city recorded yet another steep single day steep spike of novel coronavirus infections with 306 positive cases on Monday with the city’s caseload inching close to 19,000-mark to reach at 18,898, said Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials.
Apart from the steep spike of infection, the detection of 71% of the positive cases from local contacts was the disturbing feature of the day. Of the fresh infections, 218 were local contact infections while the remaining 88 cases were sourced from quarantine centres.
Of the total tally of positive cases, 3,874 are active cases while 14,942 have recovered from the contagion till date. 68 patients from the city have succumbed to infections with the city’s fatality rate standing lowly at 0.35%.
However, the redeeming feature of the COVID graph in the city lies in the fact that the infection number is on a downward trend since the past one week. From 400-plus, the number of infections is dipping to 300-plus, indicating the steady decline of the contagion.
The city also continues to maintain impressive recovery and lower case fatality rate.
