before-hudhudOdisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: Heavy rainfall will occur in Odisha when cyclone Hudhud, which is advancing fast towards the coast, would have its landfall in north Andhra Pradesh coasts around Visakhapatnam by the forenoon of Sunday.Even though thousands of people living in seaside villages were evacuated by Saturday evening, the impact of cyclone Hudhud is likely to be much less in Odisha as compared to cyclone Phailin that hit the State exactly a year ago.The four districts of Odisha that are likely to experience heavy rainfall and wind speed reaching 100-120 kmph are Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri and Rayagada.According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls and squally wind speed reaching 100-120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph along and off Odisha coast on Sunday.The very severe cyclonic storm ‘HUDHUD’ over westcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards during past six hours and lay centred at 1430 hours IST of October 11 (Saturday) near Lat.16.8°N and Long 85.0°E, about 250 kms southeast of Vishakhapatnam and 340 kms south-southeast of Gopalpur.The system would move northwestwards and cross north Andhra Pradesh coasts around Visakhapatnam by forenoon of October 12 (Sunday), according to the IMD bulletin released on Saturday evening.October 12: Heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at a few places with isolated extremely heavy fall over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.Heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over Jharkhand.Wind speed reaching 170­180 kmph gusting to 195 kmph around the time of landfall along and off north Andhra Pradesh and 80­90 kmph along and off south Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha and gradually decrease to 100­120 kmph gusting to 130 kmph would prevail along and off north Andhra Pradesh coast and Odisha coast.Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea off Andhra Pradesh & Odisha coasts.Storm surge of about 1­2 metres above astronomical tide would occur around the system center of north coastal Andhra Pradesh at the time of landfall.October 13: Heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at a few places over south Chhattisgarh & Odisha and at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.Heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and north Chhattisgarh.Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea off Andhra Pradesh & Odisha coasts, according to the IMD bulletin.
