Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Sep 2: Odisha Government on Tuesday started the process to identify land for the proposed Indian Institute of Management to be established in the State by the Centre.Acting upon the Centre’s letter to identify 200 acres of land at a few places for the proposed institution, the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) asked the Collectors of Khurda, Cuttack, Ganjam and Sambalpur to identify suitable land by September 10.A senior IDCO official told journalists that after the land for the proposed IIM was identified near Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur and Sambalpur by the Collectors, the State government will inform the Centre accordingly.A team from the Central Government will come to inspect the four places and choose one of them by taking into consideration various aspects, the official said.After Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced in his budget speech about establishment of five Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), including one in Odisha, people in Berhampur, Sambalpur and Rourkela had demanded that the proposed IIM should be established in their towns instead of at some place near Bhubaneswar or Cuttack.The five States where new IIMs will be built are Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha and Maharashtra.
