BHUBANESWAR: Making the Odisha government employees and pensioners happy ahead of the Durga Puja celebrations, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced that recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission will be implemented with effect from January 1, 2016.
About 4.5 lakh serving employees and 3.5 lakh retired Odisha government employees will get enhanced emoluments and higher pension respectively, said Patnaik on Tuesday evening.
“My government has decided to implement the recommendations of the Committee constituted for examination of 7th Central Pay Commission report and its adoption for the State government employees,” he said.
The annual additional expenditure on this count would be about Rs. 4,500 crores.
The government employees will get the pay hike from September month salary onwards, and their enhanced pay will be paid on September 26 as the Puja holidays starts from the next day.
The payment of arrears for the period from January last year till August this year will be worked out later.
In order to implement the Pay Commission recommendations, the State government had constituted a fitment committee under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner R. Balakrishnan to fix the modalities.
The fitment committee met several times and heard the grievances of the employees before taking a final decision on the issue.
Meanwhile, the government employees and pensioners of the State have welcomed the decision for implementation of the Pay Commission recommendations.
