Cuttack: The General Council of National Law University Odisha has approved 25% horizontal reservation to domicile of state of Odisha across categories for the admission to undergraduate and post-graduate programmes at NLU Odisha.
The decision was taken in a special meeting of the General Council of the university on Saturday.
The Council also approved the following eligibility criteria for claiming this reservation:
Undergraduate Programme: Candidates who have passed 12th class or equivalent examination from the state of Odisha and secured at least 60% marks (or its equivalent grade) in the said examination from any recognised College/University in the state of Odisha.
Postgraduate Programme: Candidates who have passed Undergraduate law programme (B.A.LL.B., B.B.A.LL.B., LL.B.) or equivalent examination and secured at least 50 % marks (or its equivalent grade) in the said examination from any recognized College/University in the state of Odisha.
The above-mentioned reservation will be subject to CLAT score.
A proposal to reserve 25% of the seats at the NLU Odisha for state domicile students was approved by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik two years ago.
The Chief Minister’s office has mentioned that the move will immensely benefit students from the state. Students from Odisha scoring 60% marks in their 12th examinations will be eligible for the reserved seats.
A majority of NLUs already have some form of state domicile reservation in place.
