Bhubaneswar: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday came down heavily on the Narendra Modi government for announcing nationwide lockdown without any notice.

“Whatever the government did in the name of COVID-19 was the third attack on the unorganised sector. Poor people and small and businessmen work daily to earn their livelihood. When you announced the lockdown without notice, you attacked them, he said.

“Prime Minister said the battle against COVID-19 would last 21 days, but the backbone of the unorganised sector was fractured in those 21 says,” he observed.

After the lockdown, the Congress kept on demanding before the government that it should help the poor by launching of a scheme like the Nyay Yojana, but the government did not do anything,” he said.

Gandhi further said that the Congress demanded a package to save the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “But the government did not do this. Instead the government waived off loans of 15/20 people to the tune of lakhs and crores of rupees.”

“Lockdown was not attack on the coronavirus. Lockdown was an attack on the country’s poor, youth’s future, labourers, farmers, small businesses and the unorganised sector,” he said in a video message.

“We have to understand this and we all have to stand against this attack,” Gandhi exhorted.

After Gandhi posted his YouTube video message on Twitter at 8 a.m., his tweet was saw five thousand retweets and 11000 likes within half an hour.
