Bhubaneswar: The rapid rise in pandemic infections in the current month and spike in local contact cases continues to be the cause of worry for COVID managers in Odisha’s capital city of Bhubaneswar.
In the current month, as many as 7,895 infections have been detected at a daily average of 415 positive cases. There has been an exponential spike of 43% infections in the current month. Besides, the detection of local contact cases has jumped to almost 60% of the total positive cases in September.
However, the redeeming feature of the COVID graph in the city lies in the fact that the infection number is on a downward trend since the past one week. The reassuring trend, however, lies in the fact that the city continues to maintain impressive recovery and lower case fatality rate. The number cured patients got the better of new patients as 421 patients recovered while 342 tested positive on Saturday.
Bhubaneswar on Saturday recorded yet another single day steep spike of novel coronavirus infections with 342 positive cases with the city’s caseload inching towards 18,000-mark to reach at 18,267, said Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials.
Apart from the steep spike of infection, the detection of 70% cases from local contacts was the disturbing feature of the day. Of the fresh infections, 238 were local contact infections while the remaining 104 cases were sourced from quarantine centres.
Of the total tally of positive cases, 4,133 are active cases while 14,052 have recovered from the contagion till date. 68 patients from the city have succumbed to infections with the city’s fatality rate standing lowly at 0.37%. Bhubaneswar has reported an impressive recovery rate of 77% with 421 patients getting cured of the disease on Saturday.
