Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Sep 8: Aimed at improving knowledge base of policy-makers and technologists on renewable & non-renewable energy to provide a competitive edge in the global arena Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI) started its 10th Solar Power Professional Workshop at Bhubaneswar on Monday.Hemant Sharma, Managing Director of Green Energy Development Corporation of Odisha Limited (GEDCOL) inaugurated the 6-day-long workshop on solar photovoltaic design, technology and its application where at least 30 dignitaries from various organisations and industries participated to discuss various aspects of Solar Energy and PV system and to train them there were 16 industry experts.Keeping the need of rapid industrialisation and the amount of power required in mind Sharma stated, “This is a ‘need of the time’ initiative by the GERMI.As the traditional resources are limited, it is really call of the time to think beyond traditional sources of electricity. In spite, rigorous awareness the number of private players into this field is still very less which is a matter of concern.Lack of professional courses in institutions is a major reason behind it”.“We have identified 126 buildings in which we will put solar panels of 5MW generation capacity in near future. We are going to recruit more than 100 people in our 3 upcoming projects in Odisha,” speaking on plans of the State Government Sharma added. The day one of the event was quite interesting for the participants as subjects like ‘Solar Radiation & Geometry’, ‘Crystalline Silicon PV Modules’ and ‘Construction and Design parameters of PV storage device’ were discussed by eminent professionals of the country.Subjects like Solar Resource Measurement and Analysis, PV System Configuration and Design Philosophy, Standards in Design, Safety and Performance, Operation and Maintenance of Solar PV Power Plants and Project Management of Utility Scale Power Plant are scheduled to be discussed in the next 4 days.It should be noted, GERMI has organised many such programmes successfully in various parts of India influencing very positively in developing solar power utilities. For example, 5 megawatt Gandhinagar Photovoltaic Rooftop Programme, Solar Policies and Regulatory Advisory, micro grid system for optimization and control of multiple sources power supply at CMPDI, Ranchi, Jharkhand.
