Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Nov 12: In an effort to bring changes in the lives of under-privileged sections of the society through different community services activities, Bhubaneswar Round Table 53, the first Bhubaneswar chapter of Round Table India, took 90 underprivileged and partially blind students of Bhima Bhoi School for Blind, Bhubaneswar to city based Big Bazaar near Satya Nagar for a shopping experience on Wednesday.The idea of such noble cause by BRT 53 was to bring these children of a lesser God some joy to light up their lives wherein each child was given the choice of selecting his/her daily household and personal hygiene items like toothpaste, toothbrush, hair oil, bathing soaps, warm vests, caps, gloves, study materials & etc worth Rs.500 each.Their accompanying teachers and parents assisted them to select their choice and the total payment was borne by BRT 53.Speaking on the occasion, Sarad Baid, Chairman of BRT 53 said “It is a great feeling to be a part of this noble cause by BRT 53, wherein 90 partially blind children of Bhima Bhoi blind school experienced shopping experience at Big Bazaar for the second time.As a part various projects being undertaken by BRT 53 every year, we have been organising this shopping experience programme for these small under privileged children of various educational institutions of the city since more than a decade.This time each child has been given a shopping limit of Rs.500 with which he/she can select and buy various priority items of his/her own choice”.It may be noted here that round table India has built 1500 schools benefitting lakhs of children across India under its long term project “freedom through education” in last decade.Bhubaneswar Round Table 53 (BRT 53), part of Round Table India has been actively associated with a number of noble causes like Bhima Bhoi blind school Rawa academy, flood relief operation, slum schools & etc.Some of their recent projects include construction of Rawa academy an orphanage in Bhubaneswar, Braille library for Bhima Bhoi blind school, supply of furniture for municipality slum school in Cuttack road and also carried out major relief work during super cyclone & recent floods in Puri.Fantasy Flight programme wherein 45 orphans were taken by Indigo airlines to Hyderabad and Kolkata and back on a joyride in the last two years, installation of water coolers in public places for the people and construction of play grounds for blind children of Bhima Bhoi Blind School.
