Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: Forest officials have seized carcass of a wild boar from the house of a suspected poacher in Barakola village under Rajnagar block within Bhitarkanika National Park in Kendrapara district of Odisha on Wednesday night.“Acting on a tip off, we raided the house of Ajaya Pradhan in Barakola and seized 14 kilograms of the meat of the wild boar and a hide of the animal.“The suspected poacher managed to flee from the village before the arrival of the forest officials.We are raiding several hideouts to nab him,” said Kedar Kumar Swain, Divisional Forest Officer of Bhitarkanika National Park.A case has been filed against the poacher under Sections 39 and 49 of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and Section 27 of Odisha Forest Act.The forest department has intensified vigil on poaching activity with constitution of anti-poaching squads to keep round-the-clock watch.Stray cases of wildlife poaching have come to light recently.But the department has resolved to ensure the animals’ safety, said the Divisional Forest Officer.
