Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, June 10: As severe heat wave condition continued to prevail over some parts of Odisha, the maximum day temperature soared to 44 degrees Celsius in the Capital city of Bhubaneswar today.This is the season’s highest temperature in Bhubaneswar.While the streets wore a deserted look, intolerable heat wave forced the people to stay indoors or take shelter under trees in the city.The situation was similar in most places across the State.All other places, however, experienced maximum day temperature less than Bhubaneswar during the day.Dhenkanal, Titilagarh, Bhawanipatna, Talcher, Hirakud, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Baripada, Angul, Chandbali and Balasore recorded maximum day temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and above.However, the heat wave prevailing over Odisha is likely to end within a few days.According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, light rain or thundershower may occur at one or two places over Odisha during the next 24 hours.The maximum day temperature in Bhubaneswar will be around 40 degrees Celsius on Thursday.Rain and thundershower may occur at many places over Odisha on Friday and Saturday.There will be increase in rainfall from Sunday, according to the Centre.The heat wave this year has already claimed over 40 lives in Odisha.
