BERHAMPUR: In a shocking incident, Ananga Manjari Patra, manager of former Berhampur MP Gopinath Gajapati Narayan Deb, her sister and one of her brothers were found dead inside their house in Paralakhemundi town in Gajapati district of Odisha on Sunday afternoon.
Another brother of Patra, who was found to be in a critical condition inside the house, has been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for treatment. The police have begun investigation after registering a case of unnatural deaths.Although postmortem of the three dead bodies were yet to be conducted, it is being suspected that the four had attempted suicide after Patra and her brothers were accused of keeping the former MP under house arrest and financial irregularities. While Patra and her sister Bijaxlaxmi were lying dead, her brother Sanjay was found hanging in the drawing room of their house. Both sisters apparently consumed poison.
Patra’s other Santosh, who was rescued in a critical condition, too had consumed poison. The deceased persons were under pressure following hue and cry about the alleged house arrest of the former MP, who belonged to the erstwhile royal family of Paralakhemundi. The locals had formed the Parala Maharaja Suraksha Samiti and staged a demonstration on last Sunday demanding immediate medical treatment of the former MP and probe into the wrongdoings of Patra and her brothers. The former MP was later taken to Chennai for medical treatment.
Patra’s brothers –Sanjay and Santosh – had also visited the former MP in Chennai and returned home.Interestingly, no one had kept an eye on Patra and her brothers and sister for several days. The bodies were recovered only after foul smell started emanating from their house. If Santosh survives after medical treatment, his statement will bring the facts of the case to light, according to the police.
