Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on Saturday sealed the office of the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Member Aparajita Sarangi for 15 days for alleged violation of Covid-19 norms.
Videos of Sarangi’s birthday celebrations had gone viral on social media on Friday. She and her supporters were seen singing and dancing in the videos recorded during the celebrations at the now sealed premises on Thursday.
The Municipal Corporation’s move came a day after the Odisha Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra wrote a letter to the Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai about Sarangi’s birthday celebration in violation of COVID-19 guidelines.
Sarangi reacted to the development at a press conference where she produced 14 photographs showing violations of COVID-19 norms by a number of BJD leaders and at their party office and public rallies.
She said that some women had forced her to celebrate her birthday for a few minutes at her office.
Meanwhile, COVID warriors, including health ASHA workers, have written to the Bhubaneswar police seeking action against Sarangi for repeated violation of COVID norms.
In his letter to Rai on Friday, Mishra had said that such irresponsible behaviour on the part of a people’s representative will demotivate the COVID warriors.
