Rajashree DashJajpur, July 3: A jilted lover attacked a Class-VIII girl student with a knife at her school in Golkund under Bari police station limits in Odisha’s Jajpur district apparently after being rejected by her.Police arrested the accused, identified as Deepak alias Anjan Malik (23) of local Katara village and forwarded him to the court on Wednesday.He was remanded to judicial custody after his bail was rejected.Lily Malik (15) was stabbed in broad daylight in the teachers’ common room of Padmanav High School at Golkund during recess.The seriously injured girl student was rushed to local government hospital and later shifted to district headquarters hospital, police said.Police said both the victim and the accused were residents of Katara village and distant relatives to each other.The accused was having one side love with the girl.According to the FIR filed with Bari police by the Headmaster of Padmanav High School, the accused Deepak alias Anjan Malik trespassed into the school at about 1.45 pm on Monday during recess hours.He then chatted with the girl for some time in the school premises as the latter was in the premises due to recess before whipping out a knife and attacking her with it.“The girl screamed for help ran into the teachers’ common room following the attack.The accused even dared to attack the girl before the teachers present in the teachers’ common room of the school,” said Madhav Swain, headmaster of the High School in his FIR.After attacking the girl student, the accused managed to flee.The Headmaster filed his written complaint with the local police on Monday evening.Anjan had been trying to woo the girl for over six months now but in vain, said Sitikantha Kanungo, inspector-in-charge of Bari police station.The girl sustained multiple injuries following the attack, he added.Police arrested the accused under Section 307,324 and 341 of IPC and seized the knife used in the crime and love letters written to the girl from the accused.
