Among other things, the seized items include two SLR rifles, one .303 rifle, one IED, three SLR magazine.

The teams from Odisha police, BSF and Andhra police participated in the joint operation covering large area of Swabhiman Anchal, the police said.

This operation had enabled setting up of a BSF Company Operating Base (COB) at Gurasethu in the heartland of erstwhile cut off area, according to the police.

“This is a major jolt to the subversive and anti-national designs of the Maoists in this area. We are suspecting that these arms and ammunitions belonged to the Maoists cadres of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee and they were intended to be used against innocent civilians and security forces to carry out their subversive, anti-national activities,” police said.

In the wake of recovery, further combing and search operations are going on in this area, the police added.

The State police are hopeful that the BSF COB will bring security and peace in the cut-off area enabling developmental work and thus changing the perception of the people of the area by bringing them towards the mainstream of society.
