Odisha Channel Bureau Paradip, Nov 22: Jagatsinghpur district administration has locked up an ice manufacturing plant near Paradip following ammonia gas leak from the unit couple of days back.The shutdown order was carried out following inspection by the factories and boilers officials and state pollution control board officials.A case has been registered against the private unit under factories and boilers act, 1948 as it infringed the mandatory safety and security provisions.The unit was sealed till further orders, said Paradip Additional District Magistrate, Ramakrushna Sahu. The private unit was also found guilty of contravening the provisions of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.A case has also been registered against it violation of legal provisions, the official said.It may be recalled here that panic had gripped the outskirts of Paradip Port Township following leak of ammonia gas from an ice plant during 20 November afternoon hours.The gas leak was however minor in nature and there was no report of people developing sickness following the gas leak.The mishap had occurred at Satyapriya ice plant at the Industrial area on the outskirts of port town.
