Bhubaneswar: With a view to scout innovators and aspiring entrepreneurs Startup India-Odisha Yatra was launched by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik from the State Secretariat here on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister stated that the yatra van will travel 60 educational institutions across 16 districts of the state.

Patnaik added that selected ideas will be put to three days intensive acceleration programme and the best 50 innovators will be provided incubation and mentorship support to convert their ideas into startups.

The Chief Minister expressed his happiness that during the period of last 8 months, already 175 startups are registered with the Startup Odisha initiative and we are fast moving towards our mission of 1000-Startups by 2020.

The yatra van will cover educational institutions in Khordha, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada and Ganjam districts.

Besides, 10 Boot camps will be organised during this period at Fakir Mohan University, Balasore, VSSUT, Burla, Government Engineering College, Keonjhar, KIIT, Bhubaneswar, NIT, Rourkela, Vikram Dev College, Jeypore, Govt. Engineering College, Kalahandi, NIST, Berhampur and BPFTIO, Cuttack.

Boot camps, ideation workshops and idea pitching sessions will be organized for the benefit of innovators and budding/aspiring entrepreneurs. Winners of the boot camps will get cash prizes, legal consultation, advisory services and mentorship support.

Later, talking to the media persons, Prafulla Samal, Minister, MSME informed that the main objective of the yatra is to create awareness about the startup eco-system in tier 2/3 towns and encourage the aspiring entrepreneurs and youth to set up their ventures in the state.

The yatra will be of one month duration and conclude with a grand finale at Bhubaneswar, Samal added.

L.N. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, MSME informed that during the period Startup Clubs will also be formed at each of the educational/host institution falling on the yatra route.

These clubs will function under the supervision of a Professor in-charge and with at least 3-4 volunteers.

During the yatra 500 innovative ideas are likely to be pitched, of which the best 50 ideas will be picked up for mentoring support and conversion to startups.
