Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Sep 20: Investigation of offences against women, children, dalits and adivasis has to be done on a priority basis and in a meticulous manner, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told the State police here on Saturday.Addressing the gathering of policemen at the closing ceremony of the 62nd State Police Duty Meet-2014 here, Patnaik said police have to be impartial, firm and prompt in handling crime and criminals.“Investigation of crime is one of the most important responsibilities of police.Such investigation has to be conducted efficiently and effectively.Police have to be impartial, firm and prompt in handling crime and criminals,” Patnaik said.The Chief Minister pointed out that the state government has taken several steps to modernize the police force.Infrastructure has improved, while new posts in various ranks have been created, he added.Stating that the State Forensic Science Laboratory has been strengthened with sanction of additional manpower, Patnaik announced that a new DNA Laboratory will be functional shortly.Economic Offences Wing has successfully investigated into many serious crimes.State Police have also made strides in the investigation of cyber crimes, he added.“Over the years, I have been attending this event, and I am glad to see the progress made, particularly in the spheres of increasing use of scientific aid in investigation and inculcation of scientific temper amongst police personnel,” Patnaik observed.He congratulated all the winners and participants of the meet and exhorted them to use the knowledge gained from the meet in their professional field to the advantage of common people.
