Odisha Channel Bureau Kendrapara, July 24: Police in Kendrapara district of Odisha on Thursday arrested two persons in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old minor girl in Rajkanika area of the district.The accused persons – Amar Sahu (23) and Pintu Das (19) – have confessed to the crime, according to the police.The victim was allegedly sexually assaulted a couple of days ago in Mathasahi village under Rajkanika police station jurisdiction.Police swung into action following an FIR lodged by victim’s relatives.The accused persons hailed from the same village as that of the victim.The perpetrators of the crime had acquaintance with the girl.Enticing her by offering a packaged cold drink and potato chips packet, the duo took her to a deserted spot of the village and raped her by turn. The victim was medically examined and her statement has been recorded.There was corroborative evidence of sexual assault on the minor girl, said Inspector Rajkanika police station Bijoy Mallick.The rapist had fled from the village after committing the crime.They were apprehended from a nearby village by a special squad constituted for the purpose, he said.The accused persons were booked under Indian Penal Code Section-376 (rape), Section-557 (assault or criminal force in attempt wrongfully to confine a person), Section-342 (wrongful confinement), Section-506 (criminal intimidation) and Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.The two accused were sent to jail after a local court rejected their bail plea.
