Odisha Channel Bureau Kendrapara, April 10: Police today arrested the drunk medical officer of Pattamundai Sub-Divisional Hospital in this coastal Odisha district following alleged medical negligence on his part leading to the death of an eight-year-old girl child.Earlier, tension mounted up in Pattamundai township areas with an angry mob locking up the erring doctor.Sujata Nayak down with pneumonia was rushed to hospital at late night hours on Thursday.The medical officer Bhaskar Chandra Kar did not turn up to attend the seriously ill girl.As a result she died after being stranded unattended in the hospital.The doctor was drunk and misbehaved with victim’s parents and local people, said Sub Divisional Police Officer Kedarnath Sahu.The mob was agitated because of the alcoholic nuisance on part of the medical officer.Police had a tough time in controlling the angry crowd, the official told. The accused medical officer Kar was booked under IPC Sections 294 (obscene act in public), and 304-A (causing death by negligence not amounting to culpable homicide).Later, he was remanded to judicial custody.Chief District Medical Officer Binayak Prusty said “a departmental inquiry is being conducted into alleged alcoholic nuisance on part of the doctor.The medical negligence charge is also being probed”.
