It may be recalled that the Chief Minister had directed the District Collectors on December 30 to ensure that no inmates of Missionaries of Charity will suffer especially from food security and health related issues.

Accordingly, basing on the requests of the Collectors, the Chief Minister has sanctioned assistance for 13 institutions run by MoC spreading over eight districts.

More than 900 inmates in various leprosy homes and orphanages in the State will be benefited by this decision.

Union Home Ministry had refused to renew the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration of the Missionaries of Charity established by Nobel laureate Mother Teresa, stating that it did not meet eligibility conditions.

The FCRA registration is mandatory for any non-governmental organisation or association to receive foreign funds or donations.
