Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Sep 1: Taking serious note of occurrence of dengue in Kalinganagar and nearby areas in Jajpur district of Odisha, Tata Steel has launched an intense campaign against this menace.A task force comprising of experts from its urban services team in Jamshedpur along with the medical team of Occupational Health Services, Aakar – a non-government organization and members of Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) with modern equipment are taking various proactive measures to check the spread of dengue in the Kalinganagar area.As part of this endeavor, the Larvicidal spray, anti-adult measures (fogging) has started from August 21 and is continuing at Kalinganagar plant site and various labour colonies.A team of highly skilled operators and supervisors are carrying out the fogging work in these areas, according to an official release.Maintaining good health and hygiene among its employees, workers and community in the periphery of its operations have always been a core business philosophy of the company since its inception. At present, nearly 30,000 labourers are engaged daily in the project construction activity. They hail mainly from the Kalinganagar area and nearby villages.Tackling any disease among people residing in the periphery areas is a challenging task since the company team has to deal with issues like lack of awareness, absence of proper hygiene and age old beliefs and practices.Hence, to boost awareness which is critical for prevention of such diseases, Tata Steel has started an awareness campaign on Dengue and Malaria.Massive awareness programmes are being organized not only in the plant site, but also in labour colonies and other villages of the area.Sensitisation sessions are being conducted for groups of people for better impact.Leaflets and posters on ways to prevent dengue are being distributed among the workers and nearby villages.Besides, ICE Van has also been put into use for creating awareness among the villagers.
