Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Sep 16: With a vision to promote entrepreneurship and empower the local women, Sesa Sterlite under its CSR project in association with Vedanta Foundation has opened stitching centres at Basantapada in Kalahandi district’s Lanjigarh and Hatamuniguda area in Rayagada.Through this initiative Vedanta Foundation is supporting the stitching center by providing skills and creating new business opportunities.This will also provide the associated families with an alternative source of income.At the inauguration of stitching centre at Basantapada, Lona Nayak, Head CSR attended as chief guest and thanked the women group.Around 200 women from nearby villages have attended the inauguration ceremony.Similarly, Sarita Rani Sahu, president of a local women’s self help group inaugurated the stitching center in the premises of Navabharat Club at Hatamuniguda in the presence of others.Speaking on the occasion, K.K.Dave, COO Sesa Sterlite said that Sesa Sterlite is trying to upgrade the skill training of women group by several initiatives for better livelihood in the area.This will be helpful to eradicate poverty in this region, he added.Initially, the stitching centres will start as a small a community programme to provide skill development to the women.To add further value, the women will be provided exhaustive training sessions which will not only improve their skill sets but also their stitching precision.Alternatively, the centres will be potential platforms for the overall development of women who will also be trained in several life skills such as basic literacy, personality development, accounts and business entrepreneurship, etc.The project aims to provide free training to around 500 women in the region.
