Odisha Channel Bureau New Delhi, April 19: Addressing a massive Kisan rally at Ramlila Grounds here, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today announced that the Congress will fight for the farmers across the country by strongly opposing the amendments in the land acquisition law.Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of amending the land acquisition law to give benefits to private companies at the cost of the farmers, the Congress vice-president criticised the Modi Government for carrying out changes in the land acquisition law with the sole intention of favouring the rich.Blaming the Prime Minister for his remarks against previous governments abroad, the Congress vice-president said that the words uttered by Modi didn’t befit him or the office of the Prime Minister. He alleged that Modi had brought the land acquisition ordinance to pay back the loans that he availed from industrialists who first helped him as Gujarat Chief Minister and later to become Prime Minister of the country.Congress president Sonia Gandhi also spoke on similar lines and accused Narendra Modi Government of applying double standards since it assumed power. The same Narendra Modi, who loudly announced during his election campaign `Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’, had abandoned the poor, farmers, labourers, she observed.Alleging that the farmers were being subjected to a series of difficulties by the Modi Government, she questioned the Modi Government’s intentions behind making drastic changes in the land acquisition law that was brought by the UPA Government in 2013.Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Congress leaders also addressed the rally which is being termed as Rahul’s comeback rally. The Congress had on Saturday launched `Zameen Wapsi’ website www.zameenwapsi.com in an effort to counter BJP’s campaign in support of the land acquisition amendment Bill.
