Odisha Channel Bureau Kendrapara, July 31: In the latest instance of man-crocodile conflict in this coastal Odisha district, a 37-year-old woman was grievously injured as he was attacked by a salt-water crocodile in a creek of Singiri village under Rajkanika police station jurisdiction.The mishap took place yesterday afternoon when the victim Sabitri Samal was cleaning utensils in the water-body.The crocodile after attacking was dragging the victim into water-body.However, she managed to escape.The victim has sustained multiple injuries and has been admitted in Kendrapara district headquarters hospital.She is out of danger, hospital sources said.The areas close to the national park are presently encountering man-croc conflict with a woman- being killed by a crocodile and at least six persons injured following crocodile attack since past two months.The latest croc attack occurred outside the national park limits.The state forest department would bear the cost of treatment of the woman injured following croc attack.Besides, the department would also award compensation sum to the injured person’s family as per revised rules, said Bimal Prasanna Acharya, Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (Wildlife) Forest Division.
