Odisha Channel Bureau Jajpur, Aug 4: A Sessions court in this coastal Odisha district today awarded death penalty to a self-styled tantric for killing an eight-year-old boy in a human sacrifice case in February 2010.
District and Sessions Judge Jiban Ballav Das awarded the death sentence after convicting the accused tantrik Pitambar Gaitei for killing eight-year-old Srikant Bag.The tantric had abducted the boy when he had gone to a local fair at Icchapur village with his parents. The boy had gone to urinate in the nearby field when the tantrik took him away by force. The accused tantrik had taken the boy to his mutt and sacrificed him before the deity in his efforts to gain supernatural power. The parents had soon lodged a complaint with the police stating that their minor son had gone missing. The ghastly crime, however, came to light after some children informed the villagers that they had seen the boy being taken away by the tantric. The police then arrested Gaitei under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.A total of 20 prosecution witnesses were examined in the case.
