Bhubaneswar: Despite the State government continuing with efforts to fight the pandemic, Odisha’s COVID-19 tally crossed the one-lakh mark with detection of 3,014 new cases, officials said on Sunday.

Of the total 1,00,934 COVID-19 positive cases detected till midnight of Saturday, as many as 70,714 and 29,685 persons were under treatment in COVIID hospitals and care centres, according to officials.

With the death of 12 more persons, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 has increased to 482 while 553 others COVID-19 positive persons have died due to other ailments. Around 30,000 persons are in hospital isolation.

The State has so far tested 17,31,556 samples by ramping up testing during the past few weeks.

The highest number of 17,672 cases has been reported in Ganjam district, followed 16,146 in Khordha, while Cuttack district has reported the third highest of 8,046 cases.

The State government is running as many as 38 COVID hospitals and 178 COVID care centres at present to cope with the situation.

The floods in several rivers including Baitarani, Kharasrota, Brahmani and Mahanadi have made the situation difficult for the administration.

Keeping in view the smooth conduct of JEE Main 2020 from 1st to 6th September and NEET on 13th September, the State government has ordered that there shall be no lockdown or shutdown from 30th August to 7th September and 12th September to 14th September in the cities namely Angul, Balasore, Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Rourkela and Sambalpur to facilitate free movement to the candidates and their escorts, examination personnel and staff, representatives of service providers.
