The living & inclusion category award is given to the most innovative and successful projects being implemented and developed in relation to inclusive and sharing cities.

Visakhapatnam: A beachfront park developed exclusively for special children by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has bagged the prestigious smart city awards.

The award was bagged at The Smart City Expo World Congress held at Barcelona.

World Smart City Awards are selected at the annual event which recognises pioneering projects, ideas and strategies making cities around the world more livable, sustainable, and economically viable.

GVMC and Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Ltd participated in the World Smart Cities Awards 2020 competition and submitted the project “Social integration through creation of all ability public spaces-parks for all abilities” under living & inclusion award category.

The park is developed under the Smart City Mission on the Beach Road here.

The entries for this edition were received from 46 countries.

It is the only project from India to find a place to the final list.

The living & inclusion category award is given to the most innovative and successful projects being implemented and developed in relation to inclusive and sharing cities. Three projects from different countries found a place in the final list. Visakhapatnam city from India competed with Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Turkey and Government of the State of Alagoas, Brazil.

The award was backed by the Government of the State of Alagoas, Brazil for “A New Life in the Grotas: evidence-based slum improvement and Urban Development”.

“It’s very happy and impressive that Visakhapatnam has made it to the final list from the country competing 46 countries. It gives us more encouragement to take up such projects and to win awards at international level,” said Dr. G. Srijana, Commissioner of GVMC.
