Odisha Channel Bureau Bhubaneswar, Sep 12: A day after one person was killed in police firing during a demonstration demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the murder of four members of a family at Chandpur in Nayagarh district, Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik on Friday said that the Crime Branch of Odisha police will probe the quadruple homicide.Admitting that the investigation by the local police into the quadruple murder at Chandpur had not been effective, Marik said that’s why the investigation into the case had been handed over to the Crime Branch.The DGP informed that the Inspector In-charge of Ranpur police station Chandrasekhar Mohanty has also been placed under suspension for the delay in investigations into the quadruple murder that took place in Shastri Nagar locality of Chandpur on September 6Meanwhile, as opposition Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party demanded a judicial probe into the police firing that took place near Chandpur police post on Thursday, the Naveen Patnaik Government also ordered an administrative inquiry into the firing incident.The Government also transferred the Nayagarh district Superintendent of Police Niti Sekhar and posted Dhenkanal district Superintendent of Police Monoranjan Mohanty in her place.While a youth named Pradip Behera was killed in police firing on Thursday, a large number of villagers were injured in the clash between the police and the protestors.On the other hand, leaders of different parties visited Chandpur where the police firing had taken place on Thursday and also visited the house where four members of a family had been murdered.No one had been arrested in connection with the four murders till Friday evening.
