Three sentenced to life imprisonment

Odisha Channel Bureau Kendrapara, Jan 8: Delivering the verdict of the gunning down of a businessman three years back, Kendrapara District and Sessions judge today sentenced three gangsters to life imprisonment while holding them guilty of committing the cold-blooded murder.34-year-old Sanjay Swain had been shot dead on June 11, 2011 by the criminal-trio Krusnha Priya Singh, Ajay Das and Biswa Ranjan Rath as the victim had refused to give in to their extortion tactics.The gunning down of the trader had occurred at a crowded marketplace of Pattamundai town and the murder had triggered public outcry. The court basing on the circumstantial evidence and eye witness account convicted the accused-trio under Indian Penal Code sections 302 (murder), 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (common intention). Sachikant Swain, younger brother of the slain trader, was eyewitness to the gruesome killing and had made deposition before the court describing the sequence of the murder.That had come in handy in convicting the assailants, said prosecution counsel Bhimsen Bhuyan.
