Police Inspector arrested for molesting woman constable

Odisha Channel Bureau Puri, Jan 11: Police today arrested Inspector-in-Charge of the Kakatpur police station Srikant Barik on charges of molesting a lady constable of the same police station.The lady constable had lodged a complaint before the district Superintendent of Police Asish Kumar Singh on Saturday evening.She alleged that the Inspector molested her in his chamber while she was on night duty at the police station on January 6.The accused has also been booked under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act as the woman constable belonged to the Scheduled CastesSingh had then sent Additional Superintendent of Police Jagannath Pradhan to inquire into the matter.A criminal case was registered in the police station in response to the victim constable’s complaint and the Inspector was arrested.The accused Inspector was produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Nimapara.The Magistrate refused to grant bail to Barik and remanded him to the jail custody.The issue has become a topic of discussion in various circles.Singh said as soon as the lady constable filed her complaint in person in his office he sent the Additional SP to investigate into the incident, and necessary action as per raw was taken.
