Odisha Channel Bureau Kendrapara, Dec 29: An adult male wild boar was allegedly beaten to death by an angry mob today in Dakhin-Jamboo village close to the Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary in this coastal Odisha district after hordes of boars attacked locals and injured about 10 persons of the forest-side village.Three persons were seriously injured while about seven locals had sustained minor injury following the animal attack. The angry villagers retaliated violently and chased the hordes of boars brandishing axe, lathis and spears.A wild boar became the target and the angry people hacked the animal to death, said Mahakalpada forest range officer Bijay Parida.A case under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 provisions has been registered against unidentified persons who killed the animal. The injured persons were provided with medical treatment the cost of which was borne by the forest department. The injured persons would also be covered under financial compensation as per forest department rules, he added. The outbreak of man-animal conflict has become pronounced in the sanctuary-side villages with estuarine crocodiles, wild boars and spotted deer often straying into places of human habitation. That is often triggering man-animal conflict in these parts of the State. In another incident earlier this month, people of Pravakarpur village under Mahakalpada forest range had killed a male wild boar, while another wild boar was rescued by forest personnel and released in the nearby forest.
