Odisha Channel Bureau Jajpur, Jan 10: Tension prevailed in Panturi village under Jenapur police station limits in this Odisha district on Saturday following the death of woman after she was attacked by a group, allegedly comprising supporters of the ruling party.The victim, identified as Sulochana Dalei alias Bagi was attacked by the group with lethal weapons and killed on the spot on Friday night.The incident took place on the village road in full public view.Though the victim screamed for help, no one dared to rescue her from the clutches of the attackers, police said.According to police, there was a simmering tension between two groups of the village over the sand lifting from the local river.The warring groups have different political affiliation.The continued tension turned into violence on the occasion of the immersion ceremony procession of ‘Pusapurnima’.“Armed with lethal weapons, some activists of a particular political party reached at Surendra Dalei house of the village and scolded him in filthy language during emersion ceremony procession.As Surendra was absent from house, his wife Bagi came out and protested their presence and scolding.The activists attacked her with the lethal weapons and killed her on the spot,” said Jajpur Superintendent of police Anup Kumar Sahu.While the attackers belonged to a particular political party, the victim family belongs to an opposition party, he said.This is not a political clash and no way connected with any election, the SP clarified.A case under section 302 and 34 of IPC has been registered against the accused persons on the basis of a FIR filed by the nephew of the deceased, police said.“One of the five accused has been nabbed and rest would be arrested soon,” he said.One platoon armed police force has been deployed at the village.Additional SP is camping with other police officials at the village to maintain law and order.
