Odisha Channel Bureau New Delhi, Jan 25: United States President Barack Obama arrived here today to be the chief guest in the Republic Day celebrations here on Monday.Obama is the first American President to be the chief guest on Republic Day celebrations of India on January 26.This is also for the first time that an American President is visiting India twice in his tenure.Obama last came to India in 2010 when Manmohan Singh was the Prime Minister.Prime Minister Narendra Modi received President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the Palam Air Force station in Delhi as they arrived in the country.Apart from other engagements during the day, Obama will to attend the state dinner with President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the evening.Obama’s visit is likely to see the announcement of many important agreements between India and the US.The American president would leave the country ending his three day trip on Tuesday.President Obama has cancelled his plans to visit the Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh.He cut short his visit to fly to Saudi Arabia following the death of King Abdullah.Before flying to Saudi Arabia on January 27, the US President will address a select gathering at the Siri Fort Auditorium in the national Capital.An unprecedented security arrangement has been made in New Delhi for Obama’s visit.
